Aly is learning to become a butterfly farmer. Aly is 40 years old and was born and raised in Pete. He is married and he and his wife have five children--the three eldest are in school. Aly currently is a farmer, raising cassava, bananas, and corn. Through this work he earns about 10,000 TSh (about $6) each day.

Butterfly farming would allow Aly to earn an additional 300,000 to 350,000 TSh ($200-250) each month. Aly has said that he would structure his current farming work in order to spend most of his time on butterflies.
