Batuli is 41 years old and works as a rice farmer in Chanjaani, a town on the island of Pemba, just off the coast of mainland Tanzania. She hopes to become a dairy farmer. Batuli is married with six children, ranging in age from 12 to 18 years old. Her husband works as a tailor and together they earn about US$ 95 (TZS 150,000) each year.
As part of the Chanjaani group, Batuli is looking forward to helping to open the local branch of Pemba Fresh, the island's first dairy farm, where she and the group will care for the cattle and produce fresh milk, eventually expanding to cheese, yogurt, butter, ghee, and other products.
