Asha is 25 years old and has already shown her entreprenurial abilities--she works making soaps out of cloves and other herbs, which she sells locally. She also grows yams and cassava to support herself. Through her work, Asha earns about $US 125 (200,000 TZS) each year. Asha is not married and lives in Makangale in northern Pemba, off the coast of mainland Tanzania.

As part of the Makangale group, Asha is looking forward to helping to open the Makangale branch of Pemba Fresh, the island's first dairy farm, where she and the group will care for the cattle and produce fresh milk, eventually expanding to cheese, yogurt, butter, ghee, and other products. Through dairy farming, Asha has the potential to vastly increase her income and improve her daily life.
