Mwaachi is 50 years old and lives in the village of Pete on Zanzibar. She and her husband have 7 children (though one passed away) and 4 grandchildren. One of her sons, Rungu, is currently a butterfly farmer and has been able to earn a very good income, so Mwaachi wants to try her hand at butterfly farming too. Currently she and her husband grow cassava and earn 20,000-50,000 TZS (US$ 12-30) each month, depending on whether her husband is able to make some extra money by taking on small jobs. She plans to focus much of her time on butterfly farming and to learn from her son if she has any questions.
