Suleiman is 24 Years old and lives in the village of Pete in central Zanzibar, where he was born. He is married and he and his wife have two children, a 4 year-old and a 2 year-old. Right now, Suleiman earns money from two lines of work. First, he grows bananas and cassava, which he is able to sell for a small price at the market. Second, he makes money from cutting down trees for firewood and charcoal. Suleiman knows that this activity is bad for the environment and a problem on Zanzibar, where deforestation is a major concern. Suleiman plans to stop this work and begin butterfly farming instead. He currently earns approximately 30,000 TZS (US$18) each week, and is looking forward to the opportunity to increase his income and provide more for his family.
